Cole Haan and Maria Sharapova
Guest Post from Jill from the High Heel Whore
Celebrities love trying new things and adding to their resumes. From winning a Grammy, Emmy, or Oscar, shining on the silver screen, or evolving from Child Stars to high fashion designers, when celebrities do it right, they do it right! We’re used to seeing singers and actors make the transition into fashion and shoe lines but I’m betting Miss Maria Sharapova is practically one of a kind in this arena. That’s right, the Russian-born, tennis playing, Olympic medalist joined forces with Nike and Cole Haan to create a functional, playful shoe collection aptly titled: Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan.
The Maria Sharapova line consists of flats, pumps, booties and boots; a little something for everyone! Jacked up with Nike Air comfort technology each shoe will make your heart sing!
What I Love
This line is great because it offers staple pieces with cute little twists. For example, the Air Bacara Ballet flat comes in 10 different uppers and colors with an adorable laced heel detail.
Whereas, the Hollis Boot has a zipper detailing that’s not only functional for getting into the boot, but attractive to the eye. If you have balance issues like myself, you’ll appreciate the rubber outsole and the extra foot padding each of the Maria Sharapova shoes offer. Even the Chelsea Double Platform Pump and Shanley Sandal are comfort-fit so you can dance the night away in them. How considerate of her!
What I Loathe
Wide feet, beware! Some of the shoes featured in this line are not made for wide feet. And when I say “some” I really mean, all but the Hollis boot. Even the Sage Booties offer no extra tootsie space. This revelation got a serious wah, wah, wahhhhhh from me! Remember how I mentioned all those great uppers you can get the shoe in? Well, a word to the wise; avoid the patent leather. Patent leather can be a risky material because if made poorly, it can scuff, scratch and tear easily, and even come off as looking cheap. Sadly, after a few wears your Maria Sharapova patent leather shoes will look a little more trashy than classy. Choose the calfskin or genuine leather options instead to avoid this.
Work It Girl
All of the shoes in the Maria Sharapova collection are transitional from day to night but if you need a little help picking out what to wear, let me break it down for you!
Air Bacara Flat: Since metallic is so stylish this season, go for the Silver Metallic flat and pair it with boyfriend-style jeans, a simple tee and an oversized sweater. The sassy shade will be all the oomph you need to make this outfit pop.
Hollis Boot: The nearly equestrian style of this boot makes it a perfect casual boot. Shimmy into your favourite pair of skinny jeans with a fitted long sleeve shirt and for that little extra somethin-somethin, wrap yourself up in a nice wool infinity scarf. You’ll fit right in this Fall!
Shanley Sandal and Chelsea Double Platform Pump: Perfect for a night on the town with your fave ladies, pull out your little black dress and show off your sexy gams! Use colourful accessories to really tie together your outfit and help you stand out.
Sage Bootie: Date night? These booties are perfect for it! Grab a fluted mini skirt and opaque tights for a fun, flirty, yet warm date night outfit! Feel free to get a little creative and pair them with cropped pants as well!
I Spy With My Little Eye
I think it’s always nice to see the celebrity creator sporting their own line and Maria Sharapova is no exception to this. Spotted from promotional events to errand-running she definitely stands behind her line.
Actress Olivia Thirlby is a huge fan of the Sage Booties. Thanks to their gold zipper detailing and classic with an edge-style she prefers to sport them with a nice cropped pant.
Most recently spotted was Olympic Gold Medalist winner, Alex Morgan wearing the Shanley Sandal at the US Open. She must have been there supporting the designer! And there you have it, not only does Maria Sharapova knock it out of the tennis court, she also knows how to design a mean looking shoe collection boasting a range of styles for each and every woman. Now that’s my kind of shoe line!
