As the world debates whether the reality show on TLC, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, is an exploitation of the little seven-year old star I shake my head in dismay. The show airs tonight (9/12) and no doubt little Honey Boo Boo will be in pageant diva mode but I was a little caught off guard when it was reported that Honey Boo Boo wore glitter kitten heels to school with her uniform. It’s been a long time since I was seven but I remember running a lot from excitement in school and at recess. None of my childhood thoughts go back to me or any of my classmates wearing heels to school. The exploitation debate will rage on as long as the show is on tv but what I know is kids should just be kids while they can. As much as I love heels, growing up too fast should be avoided at all cost.
How do you feel about this topic?

I agree. My mother, grandmother and aunts are super feminine women, so I was around women wearing heels and make-up pretty much all the time. However, even when I LOVED heels and make-up my mother has always been of a mind that ‘everything has its time’. I got the occasional make-up; once a year exclusively for Carnival (we celebrate it in my country); and I wore my grandma’s heels when she arrived from work (and drove mom crazy with all the noise I made). That only made me look at all that as a goal, something to really enjoy when I ‘grew up’, and at the time I had fun with my Barbies and getting them pretty clothes.
I totally agree with you, there’s really no need in rushing it all, then she (or any girl for that matter) would be either bored or too obsessed with her appearance which I don’t think it’s a good thing. This is supposed to be fun, we’re supposed to enjoy it.
