Most of us have seen the behind the scenes on the show, American Top Model, or seen images of the models struggling to walk down the runways often falling in crazy heels. Models know that walking on the runway for prestigious designers is the essential to their careers. For this reason, it’s possible that they play mental games with their psyche to think that they can handle the pain for the few minutes it takes to strut down a runway and return back stage. Most models may have one to three trips down the runway. So how bad could that hurt?
Apparently it can hurt pretty bad. As reported by Daily Mail, Meghan Collison, a well seasoned model, walked in Karl Lagerfield’s Chanel Resort 2012 show in picturesque Versailles a few weeks ago. She recently spoke out about the pain she endured for three weeks after all of the excitement from the show wore down. She wore black and clear plastic shoes in the show that made her feet bleed and they were bandaged afterwards.
Meghan Collison stated “ ’I was bleeding afterward. Hard plastic with no socks on? Not fun! Especially because we had rehearsal three times. I walked around for the next week with the backs of my moccasins folded down to let them heal! At least the shoes looked amazing.’
Models in L’oreal Melborne Fashion Festival took matters into their own hands a few months ago. The International Business Times reported that although to the dismay of some, models took off their sky-high heels while walking down the runway.
Some may deem this to be unprofessional of the models while others view it as the models protecting themselves from injury. It’s debatable from both points of view. Although the pictures above show a few of the models removing their shoes, most models will probably suck up the pain and continue to strut the runway as displayed in the video below.
So my question to you is do you think hurting feet is just an occupational hazard of modeling? Should the models just endure the pain no matter what? These are tough questions to answer. There are several models waiting patiently in the wings for their lucky break. These models would probably do as told and stuff tissue in their shoes that are too big or jam their feet in shoes that are too small just for the thrill of walking down a prestigious designer’s runway. Most may see it as all in a day’s work.
